Russian and Greek icons are the oldest tradition of Catholic art. The first icon was written by St. Luke of the Virgin Mary. Some say it was written on the wood from the table used at the Last Supper.
Icons aren't "painted" as regular art because they are actually a visual theology lesson. Each color, symbol and expression is in the picture for a precise reason and changing those things changes the theological meaning behind the icon. This is why icons have maintained their distinctive look through the centuries.
Finding true Russian icons for sale is very difficult because the Russian government has very strict export laws. Our icons are reproductions mounted on wood by Eastern Orthodox monks.
Bring this Eastern tradition into your own home or, if you need a special icon for your parish we can provide them in custom larger sizes.
